Biography:

Rebeca is an environmental political scientist with six years of experience in climate change adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and Europe. Her PhD at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London focuses on understanding the role of mangroves as drivers for social and ecological resilience in Freetown’s informal settlements. This transdisciplinary project seeks to operate at the science-policy-society interface where local community knowledge intersects with geospatial data applications and climate data.

Over the course of her career, she worked with high-level experts and policy makers at the Euro Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, the European Commission, the Stockholm Environment Institute Headquarter in Sweden and the African Climate and Development Initiative in South Africa.  Her academic background is in Politics and International Relations (BA) and African Politics (MSc). Moreover, she recently completed an Advanced Studies Master in GIS for integrated natural resource management, with a major in Green Infrastructure and Ecosystem Services.
