Biography:
Jey is a PhD student at the University of York, focusing on sustainable tourism for developing post-conflict livelihoods. His study area is in the northern province of Sri Lanka which was highly affected due to extended conflict. In addition to being a research, Jey has investments in several companies that engage in the manufacture building materials, hospitality, real estate development, IT and agriculture. In particular, he has investments in the northern province in a hotel called The Thinnai and an agritourism farm called Thinnai Farms.
Jey also operates non-profit centres for education in the northern province. He completed by bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Texas, Austin in 1986, followed by his MBA awarded by the University of Melbourne in 2009. He speaks several languages including English, Sinhala, Tamil and Japanese. His favourite pastimes are listening to music, playing the guitar, reading and writing.
