Biography:
Dr. Hamidu Seki is a Tanzanian wildlife management and ecology expert with over 16 years of interdisciplinary research experience in biodiversity, climate change adaptation, and environmental sustainability. He holds a PhD from the University of York, awarded under the Commonwealth Scholarship, focusing on the impacts of commercial gold mining on biodiversity in Tanzania. Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer at Mkwawa University College of Education and leads projects addressing climate adaptation and coastal mangrove systems. Dr. Hamidu Seki is a Co-Principal Investigator on the African Agriculture and Climate Adaptation Research System Project, a project member of the CoastMan Project , a Senior Advisor on biodiversity offset programs for North Mara Gold Mine and Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania, and the Director of Lasting Forest Solution, the carbon project implementing arm for Reforest Africa ( ).
Dr. Seki has previously built capacities for government officials and stakeholders, directed multiple projects on forest carbon stocks, and managed restoration and biodiversity assessments. His work has contributed to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals and includes collaborations with local communities, universities, and international organizations such as WWF. He continues to lead initiatives for biodiversity action plans in gold mining contexts and conducts ecological studies to support sustainable practices in Tanzania and across the globe.
