Biography:

Gerhard is a Senior Technologist in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Namibia, with over 15 years of experience in the field. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Ecotoxicology at the University of Namibia, focusing on the impact of runoff from crop irrigation schemes on the health of the Kavango River ecosystem. Gerhard earned his Master of Science degree from the University of Namibia in 2021, where he conducted research on environmental pollution assessment. He also holds an Honours Degree in Applied Science: Chemical Water Utilization from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, following a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Environmental Biology.

Throughout his career, Gerhard has specialized in aquatic ecology, water quality management, and environmental pollution control. He is passionate about environmental education and research, viewing them as vital for addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing the world today. Gerhard is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Conservation Biology.

Since August 2021, he has served as the Heavy Metals Analyst for the Wildlife Lead Poisoning Working Group, a coalition of professionals from both the private and government sectors dedicated to investigating and mitigating the environmental impact of lead in Namibia. His commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement has earned him respect within this team.
