Biography:

Solomon Habtu (PhD) is an academic and research staff member in the Department of Land Resource Management and Environmental Protection at Mekelle University, Tigray, Ethiopia. Since 2000, he has been engaged in teaching, conducting research, and delivering community services in the fields of irrigation and water resource management.

Beyond his teaching and research roles, Dr. Solomon has served as Head of the Department of Land Resource Management and Environmental Protection (2001–2002; 2005–2006), Postgraduate Coordinator of the same department (2008–2016), and PhD Coordinator of Water Resource Development and Management program at the Institute of Water and Environment, Mekelle University (2020–2025).

In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Solomon has contributed to various research and consultancy projects. His most recent engagements include: leading of the Irrigation Water Use and Governance team under the Basin Management Support for Resilient, Inclusive Growth and Harmonized Transformation for the National IWRMP of Ethiopia (BRIGHT) at the Tseba-Ayna catchment in Tigray (2025–present), Co-Coordinating of the Smallholder Farming Families Adapt African Alluvial Aquifers to Strengthen Their Own Resilience (A4Store) project (2024–present), Coordinating of the AICS RESILIENT Project titled “Damage Assessment and Identification of Interventions for Selected Irrigation Schemes in Tigray, Ethiopia”, funded by OXFAM (2025–present), and contributing as a team member of the preparation of the Irrigation Sector Strategic Plan for Tigray Regional State (2025–present).
