Biography:
Miandry Raharinomena was born in Antsirabe, Madagascar. She is a student in Environmental Management at the University of Vakinankaratra, driven by a deep passion for agriculture and the environmental challenges that threaten food systems across Madagascar. Growing up in a farming family, she developed an early and intimate understanding of agricultural practices and the pressures that climate change places on rural communities in her region.
Her professional journey began with an agroecology internship in Antsirabe in 2024, where she gained hands-on experience in sustainable farming practices and land management. In 2025, she worked as a research assistant for the FLOURISH research programme in Antananarivo. She conducted field surveys on air quality perception and green space use among urban residents. Along with the preparation of her master’s thesis in November 2025, she was working on a soil and compost laboratory experiment to test nutrient proportions and wished to continue this research further and publish her results in an appropriate journal.
Nomena firmly believes that the environmental sector in Madagascar remains undervalued, yet holds enormous potential, especially knowing that agriculture is the primary source of income of the country. Looking ahead, she hopes to inform public policy and climate change adaptation strategies in Madagascar, with a particular focus on building food security through sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.
