Biography:

Melkisedek Haindongo is a graduate from the BSc Honours Geo-Information Science with specialisation in Environmental Biology. He has an interest in environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, and community-based environmental research.

During his final year of study, he joined the FLOURISH team as a Research Assistant and supported PhD work on urban heat. Melkisedek undertook field-based data collection through the implementation of household surveys across selected neighbourhoods in Windhoek. Approved by the Ethics Committee at the University of Namibia and supported by local authorities, including the City of Windhoek and constituency councillors, this work sought to understand how nature-based interventions such as urban vegetation and green infrastructure can contribute to reducing urban heat stress, particularly in vulnerable communities. The work was undertaken in two formal (Academia and Eros) and two informal areas (One Nation and Otjomuise 8ste Laan) in Windhoek, totalling 713 surveys. Through this work, Melkisedek gained practical experience in participatory research methods, environmental data collection, and community engagement, while contributing to research aimed at informing locally relevant climate adaptation strategies.

Prior to this, Melkisedek worked on a UNESCO Etosha Heritage project, focusing on hydrological processes and water quality. He is a seasoned cyclist who worked as a GIS intern at the Namibia Road Safety Council, focusing on mapping motor-vehicle accident (MVA) hotspots around the country and participated in an awareness-raising campaign during the 2025 festive season.
