Biography:

Sophie was Laidlaw scholar working with coastal communities of the Sundarbans mangrove forest in West Bengal, India in collaboration with the local NGO Bali Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society. Her research focused on the of urban greenspaces and hybrid infrastructures in enabling biodiversity conservation, carbon drawdown, cyclone mitigation and community benefits.

As part of this work, she facilitated participatory scenario planning processes involving 45 community members. Passionate about sustainability at the landscape level and in the built environment, she has written work on green infrastructures published in the Radical Urban Lab’s ‘Sustainable, Inclusive and Just Cities’ book and in the Danish magazine ‘Green Cities DK’.

She has a degree in International Relations and Sustainable Development student at the University of St Andrews. Alongside her studies, she was a Chair of the Student Sustainability and Innovation group, a member of the Environmental Sustainability Board Advisory Group, facilitated a community consultation process to develop a new Sustainable Food Policy. With over four years of professional experience working with ESG, she co-founded Concept Zero in 2018, now a certified B-Corp.
